Chinook Trail / Silver Star Mountain Trail
The six mile Chinook Trail connects Tarbell Trail with the peak of Silver Star Mountain. It bears the name of the trail that hopefully will one day encircle the Columbia River Gorge. It is open for hikers, horseback riders and mountain bikers. The first two miles are flat and forested and then the trail reaches an open meadow. At the four mile mark, the Chinook trail splits from Tarbell to the left along an abandoned road. Chinook trail reaches the ridge of Silver Star Mountain and Ed’s trail. Continue uphill on the Silver Star Trail to the junction of the Bluff Mountain Trail.
From the junction you can continue up to the Silver Star Mountain Trail which is a 0.25 mile trail reaching the 4,364 foot summit and former location of a Forest Service fire lookout.
The trail can be accessed from the trailhead at the Tarbell picnic area at the junctions of road L1000 and L1210. Follow the signs for Hidden Falls.
